Current Classes | Get To Know Your Computer Series | The Microsoft Office Series | Future Classes Course Descriptions April/May 2003 Get To Know Your Computer Series These 2-hour classes meet once per week for 5 weeks. New to computers? Want to know more about your computer? Feel you need to understand computers better? This series does just that. This course series is designed to allow beginners
and intermediate users to become experts and to teach a few cool tricks

at a level comfortable for those who are beginners with a first computer,
as well as for those who already have a computer and feel like a beginner.
We will cover topics including what everything is called (the terminology
and names), how to plug in & set up your new computer, how to use the
mouse, how to explore and learn on your own safely. Intermediate users
may choose to start in either the Level I or Level II classes.
By the end of this series we will have covered how to recognize common file extensions, about version conflicts & why they affect your file formatting as well as keyboard shortcuts that many power users may not know. We’ll discuss how your computer ‘thinks’ and how it is organized, so you’ll be better able to understand and figure out things on your own later – all without touching any programming ‘code.’ The advanced level goes into the hardware more deeply, touches on code briefly, as well as some problem solving and maintenance.
